Education Partners/Affiliations
The BIN-RDI educational partnership activities leverage the UCSC participation in the Collaborative for Higher Education.
-
The Collaborative for Higher Education is a partnership of the three public higher education systems lead by San Jose State University, UC Santa Cruz, and the Foothill-DeAnza Community College District.
-
Formed in the summer of 2000 by President Robert Caret, Dr. M.R.C. Greenwood, and Dr. Leo Chavez, the Collaborative creates a model of higher education working together with a seamless delivery of educational services in sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
-
The NASA Research Park is an important partner with the Collaborative and will ultimately provide the physical space for a joint Collaborative building.
The BIN-RDI leverages UCSC's partnership with the LoCal RE Research program. The LoCal RE Summer research program was established in order to give students hands on experience with renewable energy implementation. The summer program combines theory and practice through an interdisciplinary approach to problem-oriented group work. Students, researchers, businesses and communities work collaboratively in small teams aiming at identifying challenges and opportunities for a range of renewable energy solutions. The teams focus not only on technology but also on policy and economics in order to develop a thoroughly integrated understanding of the practical challenges facing widespread renewable energy implementation.
The program is a conducted in partnership between UC Santa Cruz, UC Davis, UC Merced, The Technical University of Denmark, Copenhagen University, Aarhus University, Innovation Center Denmark, Silicon Valley and the non-profit organization Baltic Sea Solutions.
